BRIGHT has sent an emphatic statement to the rest of the Ovens and King reserves football competition with a thumping three-figure elimination final win against North Wangaratta on Saturday afternoon.

The reigning premiers, who qualified third for this year’s finals series and only missed out on a top two finish and double chance thanks to a final-round loss to Milawa, put their lower-ranked opposition to the sword on the Hawks’ home deck and were never seriously challenged in the 130-point demolition – 25.13 (163) to 5.3 (33).

A fast start was inevitable in warm conditions and on an immaculate playing surface in North Wangaratta, with the Mountain Men taking an important 21-point lead into the quarter-time huddle, which could have been more if they fully utilised the wind at their back.

The Hawks were able to kick a couple of goals with the breeze in the second, but the Mountain Men’s ability to run and carry with ball in hand was too hot to handle.

A massive 11-goal third term in favour of Bright soon put an end to any thought of a North Wangaratta comeback, and they completed their best attempt at cricket score-sized total to seal their spot in next Sunday's first semi-final.

There was no shortage of contributors for the winners – Kieren Jamieson, Cooper Thomson, Aiden Parmesan and ruck Joe Crawley helped Bright dominate clearances in the middle and around the ground.

Marcus Kinthari and Michael Hastie, who returned this week from a long-term shoulder injury, were influential on their wings.

Up forward, Thomas Mullane-Grant kicked an almost-unsurprising nine majors, while skipper Darcy Martin (four goals) and Crawley (three) drifted forward with great effect.

Dylan Bursill, Paul Harrison and Ryan Peace all added two goals of their own and provided valuable targets inside the arc.

There was an upset of sorts in Sunday’s elimination final between Bonnie Doon and Moyhu, as the Hoppers turned a fifth-placed finish with some poor recent results into a 47-point boilover.

The Bombers wasted some early scoring opportunities and were made to pay, with Moyhu kicking six goals to one in a season-defining third quarter to set up the win and give them the chance to take on a rejuvenated Mountain Men outfit.

Bright and Moyhu will be fighting for a preliminary final berth at Tarrawingee on Sunday, with the first bounce at 12pm.
