CALMER conditions have brought some relief on the fire front this week but not for air quality across much of the Alpine Shire.
Slight rainfall over the weekend and cooler temperatures has caused smoke to pool and drain into towns causing hazardous air quality readings for much of Monday, forcing locals indoors.
With large-scale back burning planned for much of this week, CFA’s deputy incident controller Mark Owens expects the “uncomfortable conditions” to stick around a while longer.
