THE Whorouly Recreational Reserve will host a Children's Family Fair Day this Saturday, October 1.
The idea of a fair was raised by 11–year–old James Tilson of Whorouly, who wanted to give kids the chance to have fun after the emotional and physical effects of COVID.
Like many kids, James had issues coping with COVID and wanted to celebrate getting back to 'normal'.
"I missed the contact with other kids, family and friends during lockdowns," he said.
"I asked if I could go to Nan's meeting at the Inner Wheel Club and talk about some fun activities we could organise for kids and ask if they would help me organise it.
"I then did a survey with the kids at my school (Whorouly Primary School) and we came up with the idea of the fun day."
James was born six weeks premature and has had numerous surgeries on his hands, but is always positive and never complains.
"James is a truly special gift to our family," proud Nan Sherren Tilson said.
"He is a very caring little man who loves being with people and he gives so much love and respect to everyone, no matter their age."
Sponsored by the Rural City of Wangaratta, Whorouly Inner Wheel and Whorouly Recreational Committee, the free event will start at 3pm on October 1 and includes children's activities, a barbecue and a movie.
Inner Wheel is a worldwide organisation which encourages fun, friendship and service.
The Whorouly group has been running for eight years and has provided funds for worthy causes locally and across Australia.
They even sponsored a young girl in East Timor to become a nurse, and she has now delivered more than 100 babies.
The diverse, talented and vibrant group of Whorouly Inner Wheel Club ladies meet the third Thursday of each month and offer friendship, dinner meetings and lots of fun.
