MORE than 100 preps all across the Alpine Shire started school recently, and although most aren't in classrooms today due to the statewide lockdown, their first few weeks in school have been exciting.

Zlatko Pear, Myrtleford P-12 principal, said it was great to see so many new faces in school again, and that his prep students had settled into their academic life well.

"They're doing fantastically," he said.

"They've settled in well, they're very excited and they've made a remarkably smooth transition to school life.

"At the moment the only ones who are here at school have to be because their parents work, but hopefully come tomorrow we'll have everyone back in the classroom."

Speaking about what he was most looking forward to accomplishing with the new preps, Mr Pear said he just wanted them to have a year uninterrupted by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

"Hopefully we have a better year with them than we did last year," he said.

"There were disruptions last year because of COVID, and I think we'd all just like a bit more consistency, but of course, at the moment, things are unpredictable."
