MYRTLEFORD LAWN TENNIS

The 2021 summer season concluded on March 27 for all sections ahead of the return of the annual Easter tournament.

The Thursday ladies finished in damp conditions and then retired for a well-deserved lunch.

The juniors had an exciting conclusion to the season with the top two teams meeting in the final and what great tennis they produced for the spectators.

The team of Shayla Power, Abbie Flack, Caitlin Shute, Lily Cuskelly and Sam Rossato won enough games to get over the line from Taylor Notarianni, Sam Sacco, Jac Lewis, Charlie Piazza and Hannah Pear.

Ella McMasters was crowned the best Ready Set Player of the season.

Congratulations to all of our juniors for a fantastic competition and to the organising committee of Jason Korb, Lisa Shute, Linda Lewis and Zoe Cooper.

The Saturday pennant experienced light showers and sunshine in an interesting end to the season.

Warriors had a 6/49 win over Heat 4/35.

For Warriors Kate Sanderson, Dene Freeland, Jonah Bonacci and George Whitford all won three sets each while for Heat Nick Salmon was again the standout winning all four sets.

Bulls were going for a hat-trick of wins over Lakers and fell short with Lakers 7/53 to Bulls 3/36.

Subs Marnie Broz and Andy Carr along with Ryan Cobbe and Ian Ellen all won three sets while for Bulls Andrew Gibson had a great battle with Rob Franzoi to win two sets.

The winning team was Lakers on 1.25, Bucks 1.17, Warriors 1.16, Bulls 0.71 and Heat 0.5.

The winning team comprised Rob and Justine Franzoi, Michael Crocker, Ryan Cobbe and Ian Ellen.

The best pairs were Kath Morgan/ Nick Salmon on 30 games from Rob Franzoi/ Ian Ellen and Kevin Mock/ Jacob West both on 29 games.

The player of the competition was Nick Salmon on 20 sets from Rob Franzoi, Ryan Cobbe and George Whitford on 17 sets each.

The Hot Shots program concluded with the 9am session managing 45 minutes before the rain made conditions very unpleasant which meant the 10am session did not even start.

The program will recommence in early November.

Many thanks to our parents who helped out on court and a special thanks to the wonderful group of coaches.
