THE Myrtleford Swim Club capped off a strong year in the pool with strong performances at pennant meets across the region over the past fortnight.

Sunday saw 17 swimmers make the trip to Corryong for the last meet of the year, with Myrtleford coming in a close second to Mount Beauty, separated by just 17 points.

The 12 and under girls medley relay team broke a 24 year old record, originally set by Rutherglen back in 1998.

The previous record was 1:45.51, and the Myrtleford squad of Ella McMasters (backstroke), Zahra Hazeldine (breaststroke), Milla Corcoran (butterfly) and Gemma Corcoran (freestyle) swam 1:44.22.

It is a new Ovens & Murray Swimming Association (Southern Division) record.

The club's previous meet was Sunday, December 11 at Mount Beauty, with seven new swimmers diving in the deep end and making their competitive debut for the club.

Highlights from the new swimmers included Michaela Nightingale showing her strength in the sprints to win the 14 and under 33m butterfly and freestyle races.

Myrtleford ended up coming second to the home club, Mount Beauty.
