A SUCCESFUL swim season for the Myrtleford Swim Club has finished strongly, with 11 swimmers representing the Ovens & Murray District Swimming Association at the Victorian Country All Junior finals on Sunday, March 20 and being announced as southern division champions.
The all–junior finals saw Clementine Chapman, Mia McGuffie, Claye Corcoran, Arabella Chapman and Milla Corcoran progress to the top 10, with Claye and Arabella finishing with bronze medals in the 9&U breaststroke and 50m butterfly respectfully.
The achievements topped off a big season for the club, which again won the local pennant competition, amassing 3083 points over the seven pennant meets during the 2021/22 swim season.
Club team selector Belinda Gunson said she could not be happier with how the season went and is looking forward to the new season starting up in term three when the shire's outdoor pools re–open.
"All of the club members were excited to hear the news and excluding last year due to no pennant being run because of COVID, this makes four consecutive seasons that Myrtleford has won the series," she said.
With the fear of numbers dropping because of the events of the last two years Gunson was pleasantly surprised when so many numbers came to trials.
"The trial night for new members really surprised us because of the long wait between seasons, but with our existing team we were able to sign up 23 new members, and our club looked quite healthy from the start," she said.
Club president Leigh Corcoran said he was happy to see so many people re–engage with swimming after the last two years, with the membership base being at an all–time high.
"Everyone helps and chips in, sharing the load with everything that needs to be done, so winning the southern division championship is a credit to all the coaches and their program they run to help with development," he said.
