Bright Bowls Club

AFTER missing a week of pennant due to the snap Covid lockdown Bright Bowls Club's A3 team were keen to get back out on the green to take on Rutherglen at Rutherglen.

Facing Rutherglen is always a daunting task but all players were positive Bright could take the points to firm their place in the top four.

The overall score was close all day with the lead changing several times.

At the end of play Bright was narrowly in front 82/79 putting Bright second on the ladder.

Results were: Jerry Wilson, Ernie Vanderwert, Bill Hayes, Martin Kupferle 25/20; Terry Gibbons, Libby Barker, Julie Ellis, Geoff Jones 14/22; Elaine O’Shea, Bev Griffith, Trevor Poyner, Patrick O'Shea 22/16; Steve Jenvey, Greg Pepyat, Peter Raduczic, Cheryl Raduczic 21/21.

B3 travelled to Milawa and in an exciting finish Bright narrowly went down by 1 shot 60/59.

Results were: Bill Connolly, Linda Vanderwert, Frank Tomaino, Linda Hayes 19/22; Veronica Rynia, Noel Rowe (sub) Barry Rowe, Ralph Zonta 22/24; Phyl Swindley, Ken Lewis, Wayne Curtis, Geoff Setford 18/24.

Next week both teams are at home, with A3 playing Yarrawonga and B3 playing Corowa Civic.

Members are reminded to arrange their 21-up games.

Community bowls is continuing to provide Wednesday night fun for those attending.

If you are not in a team just come along and we will get you a game.

We are always looking for extra players so just register your name at the office by 6.45pm.

This Wednesday night there is a sausage sizzle starting at 6pm.

Some members are on the sidelines at present due to health reasons.

We wish them well and hope to see them back on the green soon.

Mytleford Lawn Tennis Club

THE Thursday ladies pennant enjoyed perfect tennis conditions made even better being the morning after the lockdown.

The results were: Team 5, 4/38 def Team 4, 2/29; Team 7, 5/46 def Team 6, 1/32; and Team 2, 3/41 def Team 3, 3/36.

The three set winners were Debbie Geddes, Carol Lapthorne, Delia Harrington and Kate Earl.

The Saturday pennant experienced very hot conditions and the week off because of lockdown caused a few fitness and form problems for a few players.

The Warriors got off to a great start against the Bulls winning the first four sets before the Bulls got their act together to win four of the last six sets to narrowly lose 6/41 to 4/38.

The Warriors won two long tie break sets to help their cause.

For Warriors super sub Andrew Gibson won all four sets and had great support from Jonah Bonacci winning three sets.

For the Bulls Alex Salmon won three sets and Anne Browne two sets.

In the other match Bucks held off a fast finishing Heat to narrowly win 5/47 to Heat 5/44.

For the Bucks, Alan Heberle and George Whitford won three sets each while for the Heat Nick Salmon was the standout player winning all four sets.

The ladder is: Lakers 1.67, Bucks 1.67, Warriors 1.33, Heat 0.33 and Bulls 0.25.

Next week has Bucks playing the Warriors while the Lakers take on Heat.

The duty team is Heat and the Bulls have a well-earned rest.

The juniors recommenced and played only their second round of the competition.

The Ready Set play group also had their second week with Ella McMasters winning on 12 games with Claye Corcoran runner up on nine games.

The Easter entries close on Friday, March 5 and there are still a few places in the senior competition and many in the junior section.

Myrtleford juniors are encouraged to get their entries in.

Junior tennis players are all doing so well and it's great to see a couple of kids from Bright and Beechworth coming to enjoy our beautiful courts.

The most recent three set winners are George W, Caitlin S, Molly K and Hannah P.

There were plenty of tie breakers and the end team scores were pretty close, with Kookaburras just a giggle ahead of Possums, 47 to 41 games; Echidnas just spiked Koalas to win by a prick, 45 to 40, games; and the Platypus splashed ahead of the Kangaroos, 49 to 46 games.

Myrtleford Bowls Club

Lockdown prevented Midweek pennant being played but Weekend Pennant was played last Saturday.

In A2, Rutherglen 83 (15 pts) defeated Myrtleford 81 (3 pts).

This was a hard fought game which saw Myrtleford leading for most of the day but Rutherglen too good in the end.

Congratulations to Paul King’s team with Maria Duic, Walter Brett and Jeff Stagg for their 3 shot win, 19 to 16.

Also Atilla Litkei’s team with Cheryl Lewis, Mick Dwyer and Skeeta Keat who drew 26 all.

Greg Robbins’ team with Ady Villella, Royston Smith and Marino Candusio went down by 1 shot, 16 to 17, and Lance Symons’ team with Norm Bussell, Kevin Chalwell and Wally Dunstone went down by 4 shots 20 to 24.

In B1, Myrtleford 57 (12 pts) defeated Moira 51 (2 pts).

Congratulations to Sam Bonacci’s team with Frank Watson, Kath Wood and Bob Shooter for their 23 shot win, 36 to 13.

Also to Col Byrne’s team with Janice Shooter, Deni Piazza and Graeme Attwood for their 1 shot win, 14 to 13.

Neil Jensen’s team with Glenys Pepyat, Casey Vanderpol and Lou Frizzo went down by 18 shots 7 to 25.

In B3, Corowa Civic 71 (12 pts) defeated Myrtleford 57 (2 pts).

Congratulations to Graham Dwyer’s team with Peter Sharkey, Gerry Green and Helen Dwyer for their 16 shot win, 26 to 10.

Other results were: Gareth Williams’ team with Allan Wood, Janine Powell and Annie Dunstone went down by 11 shots; 19 to 30 and Kevin Wood’s team with Dieter Grimm, Wally Langton and John Marsden went down by 19 shots, 12 to 31.
