A sixth-straight win for Dederang-Mount Beauty’s A grade netball side sees them hold on to fourth spot on the TDNA ladder after a 15-goal victory on Saturday.
The away trip to Mitta has caused headaches in the past but the Bombers had no such trouble this time around, leading from start to finish in the comfortable 56-41 win.
A nine-goal lead at the first break ballooned to 15 at the second, which ended up being the final at the end of four quarters, with Mitta staying level with the finals-bound Bombers in the second half.
Captain and shooter Alysha de Koeyer owned the attacking goal circle with 44 goals, while Keely Bullivant provided great support with 12 of her own.
Coach Alex Dyde was stoked with how the game, and first half in particular, panned out.
“I think the most impressive bit of the game was our ability to remain unshaken even when Mitta were putting up lots of different combinations against us,” Dyde said.
“A ripper first quarter helped set us up for the rest of the game too, which is what we will need to do over the next few weeks.”
In what will be arguably their toughest two-week block of the year so far, Dederang-Mount Beauty will face Kiewa-Sandy Creek (home) and Thurgoona (away) to finish the regular season.
“Kiewa undoubtedly will put up a strong contest, particularly as they’ll be hungry for a win after their loss this week,” Dyde said.
“I’d like to see us play the game and plays we want to play, focusing on our strengths in order to put a strong contest forward and solidify our set plays going into finals.”
In Tallangatta league senior football, Dederang-Mount Beauty were soundly beaten by Mitta United by 162 points last weekend.
On a great day for free-flowing football, the Bombers put the brakes on the Mountain Men to trail by 14 points at quarter time, but Mitta opened the floodgates with 26 goals in the remaining three quarters.
The 4.5 (29) to 30.11 (191) loss leaves Dederang-Mount Beauty winless with two rounds to go.
