GOLF enthusiasts in Bright have been eager to get back out on the green with the reintroduction of a Chicken Run competition at their golf course in recent weeks.
Played on Wednesdays, teeing off between 4.30pm and 6pm, the nine-hole Chicken Run is open to all to try out and have a fun afternoon on the course.
Week one, which began on Wednesday, November 27, saw 24 handicapped players and seven non-handicapped players at the Bright Golf Club play a nine-hole course, where local Macca Simpson emerged victorious in his first competition with a score of 21 points, playing off a handicap of 31.
"It was aimed at providing an avenue for people who are time poor or who work during the day and are not able to play in regular Monday to Friday competitions, as well as people who do not have a handicap," said one of the event organisers Heather Thompson.
"It's been a fun night with, of course, a cooked chicken and a novelty chicken going to the winner.
"We had such a good start to the run, but we got rained out last week.
"Week two's competition was played in hot, muggy conditions with a field of 16, including two non-handicapped players."
The results saw Darcy Beecher as this week's winner with a handicap of 16 and a final score of 23.
Macca Simpson came in joint second with a handicap of 33 to score 22 CB and Andrew Badrock started with a 16 point handicap ending at 22 points.
"Andrew also had an eagle on the seventeenth hole," Thompson said.
"Weeks three and four of the Chicken Run have been sponsored by Andrew Badrock of Badrock Air Conditioning & Refrigeration.
"Andrew has kindly donated a ham for the week three prize and a turkey for the week four prize.
"We're playing in the five weeks leading up to Christmas and hopefully there will be enough interest to keep the event running over the summer months as well.
"The event used to be held 20 years ago," Thompson said.
"Recently my friend and I started up a nine-hole ladies' course and we thought, 'what if we started up a Chicken Run?' and it's gone from there.
"Non handicapped players are welcome and will be given a handicap for the night.
"Presentations take place at 7.30pm on the deck at the golf club."
