BRIGHT local and up–and coming cyclocross star Sam Northey has been selected to represent Australia at the 2023 UCI Cyclocross World Championships in the Netherlands in early February.

Northey is one of only three Australian athletes chosen to compete at the World Champs, and will race in the U19 category at the event, which will be held from February 2–5 in Hoogerheide, Netherlands.

Cyclocross races last approximately one hour, and are held on technical and hilly circuits of 2.5–3.5km.

Cyclocross provides a real education in cycling as it requires accomplished bike handling skills and unfailing physical fitness, and competitors have to carry their bikes over some sections

Northey finished with the bronze in the junior competition at the Australian National Championships in September.

"I can't wait to represent Australia at my first world championships and am looking forward to giving it a crack to see what I can achieve," he said
