THE Bright Bowls Club rounded out 2024 on style, hosting their Men’s Singles Championship on Sunday, December 15.

The two men’s semi-finals were played earlier in the day between Peter Raduczic (26) and Patrick O’Shea (15), and Ernie Vanderwert (26) and Gilbert Griffith (13).

Many spectators witnessed good bowling from all players.

The final proceeded after lunch and after a very quick game in which Vanderwert dominated play, taking the win 27-4, and was very excited to win the championship.

Vanderwert joined the club in 2018 after taking part in the annual Bright Community Bowls Competition for several years.

He won the Under 5 Year Championship that year, was runner up Club Champion in 2020/21, and in 2022/23 he had an excellent year winning the 100 Up Championship, 21 Up Championship and Open Pairs Championship.

The win qualifies Vanderwert to play in the Ovens and Murray Bowls Region Singles Champion of Champions in February, up against the best players from the 28 clubs across the North East area.

Unfortunately, the ladies did not have enough entries to have an event.
