A RECORD field of 12 ladies took part in the Myrtleford Bowls Club’s Ladies Singles Championship.

In the first round, Peta Mattys beat Helen Murtagh 25/16, Pippa La Spina beat Gerry Green in a close game 25/20, Mary Paton beat Phyl Swindley 25/8, and Janine Powell beat Colleen Watson 25/14.

The next round saw Cheryl Lewis overcome last year’s champion, Peta Mattys in a very close game 25/24.

Michelle Van Praagh defeated Pippa La Spina 25/11, Mary Paton overcame a tough opponent in Karen Nicholls in a close game 25/20 and Liz Saunders beat Janine Powell 25/12.

The semi-final saw Michelle Van Praagh edge out Cheryl Lewis 25/20 and Mary Paton beat Liz Saunders 25/10.

The final between Mary Paton and Michelle Van Praagh was a very close encounter, with both ladies producing some amazing shots.

Van Praagh was holding shot when Paton put down her last bowl which clipped the side of her own second shot bowl and pushed it in to win the game 25/24.
