ON a cold and windy day at the Wangaratta Bowls and Sports Club, it took the Myrtleford weekend B1 side most of the match to shake off a persistent Moyhu team in their lawn bowls final.

Myrtleford were ultimately triumphant winning the Qualifying Final 60/50, and they earned the right to play off in the grand final.

Their best rink was Les Brown’s with Denis Piazza, Wayne Langdon and Adrian Villella winning 24/14.

Chipping in were Jeffrey Stagg’s team (22/15) and Graham Burrington’s team (14/21).

The weekend B2 team travelled to Corowa to take on Beechworth in the Semi-Final.

A dominant performance by Helen Murtagh’s team pulled them through to the next round, with Myrtleford winning 62/54.

Helen Murtagh with Peter James, Matthew Dunell and Robin Byrne won 29/11, while Lindsay Hamilton’s side went down narrowly 20/22 and Jon Dunell’s team lost 13/21.

They will go into the Preliminary Final against Club Mulwala.

In the final round of the midweek pennant, Myrtleford A2 disposed of Moira at Moira with a win 64/42.

Best rink was that of Mary Paton, Lance Symons, Denis Piazza and Graeme Piazza who came away with a 25/11 win.

Greg Robbins’ team managed a useful 26/15 while Michael Dwyer’s team slipped away 13/16.

The midweek A2 team finished on top of the ladder and will proceed to the Semi-Final.

Meanwhile, the midweek B2 side failed in their bid for finals double chance, going down to Swanpool at Swanpool 57/75.

On a difficult green, only the team of Colin Smith, Terry McCaw, Norman Vonarx and Liz Saunders managed to come to terms with an unfamiliar surface and came from well behind to win 26/23.

Other rinks were disappointing, with Pippa Laspina’s team losing 16/22 and Lindsay Hamilton’s 15/30.

They will now play off in the elimination final.
