Snow season ends students' enjoyable time at Dinner Plain campus

As the end of term three came to pass on Friday 18 September, so too did another season at Bright P-12 College's Dinner Plain campus. The campus is opened during winter, and this snow season was attended by up to 50 students from across the country who resided on mountain while parents worked at the alpine resort. Dinner Plain campus head teacher, Nick Kenwright, said the list of this season's memories is long and varied, but all participants agreed it had been an enriching experience learning at their winter wonderland. "This year, everyone had a great time, even before all the adventures we’ve had outside of school," he said. "We bushwalked all around Dinner Plain in the beautiful alpine environment, built snowmen as well as cubbies in the Snow Gums, (which are still there!), tobogganed down the snow mound out the front of school and went skiing and snowboarding with Bright College Snowsports Team. "We played frisbee and golf, we had a go shooting at targets with the biathlon club, played a lot of soccer in the snow at recess, as well as a bit of cricket and some other ball games. "We also held a Community Day, attended a weekly café reading at Club Wyndham and drank lots of hot- and iced-chocolates and picked up litter on our ‘Clean-Up Dinner Plain Day’. "One day we patted dingo cubs with Wildlife Wranglers Zev and Jake, as well as snakes, bugs and other reptiles." Students also developed and implemented a Dinner Plain Stamp Trail, took part in the Australian Mathematics Competition, visited The Alpine School and attended workshops facilitated by the Year 9 students, raised awareness and over $1100 to protect the Snow Gums and dressed up for Book Week. "Some of the children's favourite activities included a silent disco around Dinner Plain Hut, a sausage sizzle or two, cross-country skiing while playing ‘snow ball’ and falling over, going on nature hunts and orienteering around the village, drinking Milo every Friday and making our own pizzas at the High Plains Hotel (thanks Snake)," Mr Kenright said. "One of the best parts was when we had our families visit the school, to share all of our learning from our short, but unforgettable time at Dinner Plain. "From all the staff and students at Dinner Plain Primary School: have a great summer everyone and see you next year!"
