Alpine Shire Council unanimously voted to approve, execute, sign and seal a proposed lease of a Porepunkah Airfield hangar at last week's council meeting.

Moved by Councillor Gareth Graham and seconded by Councillor Noah Tanzen, Cr Graham asked if there were any restrictions on the use of these aircraft hangars.

Council’s director of corporate and community, Nathalie Cooke, said the hangars were only to be used for aviation purposes, which is detailed in the copy of the lease.

Councillor Dave Byrne asked when and how the amount of rent was established.

“The lease cost was established some time ago and my understanding is we’re to align with [the] best practice of other councils,” Ms Cooke said.

“As it’s a not-for-profit, it was based on an equitable square-metre rate for the community.”

Council consulted with the Porepunkah Airfield Association, which supported the issuing of the lease.
