MYRTLEFORD’S Swimming Club headed to Wangaratta on Sunday, February 7, for what turned out to be a very prosperous competition for the club.

As club representative Belinda Harding explained, no less than 19 swimmers made their way to compete in Wangaratta in this season's 'All Juniors' competition, which attracted well over 300 swimmers from around the area.

“It's been a very different season this summer," Ms Harding said.

"The usual pennant series hasn't been held, but a limited joint series has been held with the O&M, as a result only a small number of swimmers having actually competed, and so that was the first competition a lot have swam since last year.”

Ms Harding said the post-COVID times we all find ourselves in had made for an interesting build up to the event.

“Training has been limited, with the start of the season seeing the team only being able to train two nights a week instead of the usual three,” she said.

“Despite all these limitations though, the competition brought a lot of pleasant surprises.

“Some 14 of our club members swam their way into top eight positions in their events, meaning they will now go on to compete in Melbourne at MSAC in the semi-finals later on in the season.”

The fourteen successful swimmers were: Arabella Chapman, Claye Corcoran, Mitch McMasters, Milla Corcoran, Alexis McGuffie, Daisy Howell, Eamon Thomson, Zahra Hazeldene, Gemma Corcoran, Skylah McPherson, Jack Thomson, Lochlan Thomson, Kate Davey and Amy Gunson.
