The Christina Mancuso Cup is back at Savoy Park after Myrtleford’s division one women took a 2-0 win over Wangaratta City on Sunday.

Taking on the bottom of the table Devils, Savoy had a lot of momentum early, with resolute defence allowing them to springboard up the pitch.

The deadlock was broken after half an hour when Bonnie Denison converted on a great buildup, with the lead 1-0 at the half.

Savoy continued to surge after the break, with plenty of chances going just wide of the net, until Lily Notarianni doubled the advantage.

Co-coach Tom Scott said it was brilliant to get one back against Wangaratta after they fell to the Devils earlier in the season.

“It was great to win against our rivals and secure the [Mancuso] trophy,” he said.

“We started the game with a lot of energy, creating some early opportunities, which was exactly what we had planned for.

“On the other end of the field, our centre backs [Alessia Colanzi and Gabby Paglia] were dominant in the air and didn't allow Wang to have any time going forward.

“Towards the 30-minute mark we were able to find the back of the net through an excellent team goal led by Colette [Suter] and finished by Bonnie [Denison].

“Going into half-time ahead, we made sure to keep a level mindset - during the second half, we had moments to capitalise, but unfortunately shots went either side of the bar.

“Towards the end of the second half, again we were able to break through Wang’s defensive line and score through a run by Colette and finished by Lily [Notarianni].”

The division two women's team also triumphed, taking the win 5-0 over a tough Wangaratta City reserves squad.
