It was another exceptional performance from Myrtleford’s division one men’s side, who managed a 3-2 triumph in their Sunday match with Albury City.

After securing their second consecutive league title last week, they could be forgiven for parking the bus and taking it easy until finals, but the team’s made of sterner stuff than that.

With the lure of an undefeated league season very much a possibility, the side ripped into their match, with Azia Feltrin slipping one by the keeper in the 18th minute.

City levelled it in the 39th, but Feltrin extended the lead once again immediately, with Savoy leading 2-1 at the break.

Tom Morrison struck in the 80th and Savoy went on the defensive, with City only managing to find a penalty deep into stoppage time.

Senior coach Jayden Vescio was impressed with the drive from the players after winning the league last week.

“It was a good, well-rounded team performance on Sunday,” he said.

“You can get a bit complacent after winning the league, but this group I’ve got now, I could tell they weren’t going to let that one slip, they’ve got a real emphasis on going unbeaten in the league.

“They probably got on top for the first 10 minutes of the second half – they obviously got us in that [FA] cup game earlier in the year and they’ve scored a lot of goals, the same if not more than us, but they’ve leaked quite a few.

“They got on top for about 10 minutes where we defended really well as a unit, we had 10 players behind the ball.

“They weren’t really penetrating with their attacks, but they probably got on top for the best part of 15 minutes, but we were able to wrest some momentum back.”

Savoy will take this weekend off with the bye before rounding out their home and away season with a home game agaisnt Melrose FC.

The reserve men took a 2-1 win over Albury City, while the division one women had the bye.
