BRIGHT’s Julian Braudry impressed at the recent National Road Series Tour of Gippsland, held from October 2 to October 4 in the picturesque locales of the state‘s south east.

Braudry, 18, was competing in the U19 NRS Men’s division this year, yet another up-and-coming cyclist produced in Bright, alongside currents stars Luke Plapp and Fergus Browing.

Braudry advanced from a MTB background with the Alpine Cycling Club into the road scene thanks to his dad, Christophe, who is also a Aussie Masters road champion, to quickly climb up the U19 NRS leaders board due to his impressive natural climbing talent.

Braudry come into the Tour of Gippsland as joint leader with Alex Correll who didn’t start, and it looked like he would take the NRS title with no opposition but was pushed all the way by Bridgelane rider Jonas Shelverton, who would take out the NRS U19 Men’s Tour of Gippsland GC overall classification.

Braudry would finish in third place and secure the Final NRS U19 Men’s individual championship title from Shelverton.

His long-term goals as he heads into the U23 division are to give it a crack after completing his Year 12 studies and venturing to the European road scene, as well as hopefully signing a team contract were he has family history with a dual Australian-Belgium passport.

The summer of cycling in Australia race program will also include the Tour of Bright in his own back yard, followed by the Australian Road Championships in Perth then the exciting new ProVelo Super League were he will be chasing the lucrative U23 winner’s prize of a stagier contract with Gerry Ryan’s Jayco Alula Pro Tour team in 2025.
