THE Federal Government has released draft legislation for a new public sector watchdog, a week after local Indi federal Independent MP Helen Haines introduced her own Bill to establish an Australian Federal Integrity Commission.
Attorney General Christian Porter said the proposed Commonwealth Integrity Commission (CIC) will have greater investigatory powers than a Royal Commission to combat corruption.
Consultations on the 363-page draft will begin this month and continue until March to give critics an opportunity to propose alternatives.
