IT may have occurred two years ago, but the Kiewa Valley Historical Society is helping ensure the landslip on the Bogong High Plains (BHP) Road is not forgotten.

In October 2022, after a period of extreme rainfall, the BHP Road above Bogong Village experienced a huge landslip which resulted in the road being closed totally until April 2023 and then with one lane access until May 27 this year.

Not only was the road closure a disastrous situation for the Falls Creek Ski Resort, 15kms above Bogong Village, but the safe restoration of the road was an engineering nightmare.

The Kiewa Valley Historical Society, in partnership with the Whelan Group Investments who actually reinstated the road, have recently mounted an interpreted display and video of this historic event.

This new display is in the KVHS Museum at the Mount Beauty Visitor Information Centre, Mount Beauty, which is open from 9.30 to 4pm seven days a week (except Christmas Day).

The display will run throughout summer and into autumn.
