THE Big Red Kidney Bus has set up in Porepunkah for its fourth visit, having previously brought its life-changing free mobile dialysis service to the region in 2021, 2022, and 2024.
Porepunkah was one of the most popular locations the bus visited in 2024, and it's back again to provide patients with life-saving dialysis treatment and high-quality care while surrounded by the breathtaking autumn foliage that Porepunkah and Victoria's High Country have to offer.
There are three chairs on the bus, with six sessions available a day at this location; making for 144 total sessions over the duration of its stay in Porepunkah.
Monash Health dialysis nurses on board the bus provide the same high-quality care patients are used to receiving in their regular dialysis facilities.
Bookings for the bus in Porepunkah are at about 80 per cent capacity - with 37 individuals booked in, including 18 new patients and 19 return patients.
The Indi electorate has the 16th highest percentage of community diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in Australia.
Some 1895 Indi residents have been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and more than 17,200 people likely to have the condition undiagnosed.
"We hope that having the bright red bus in Porepunkah will bring much needed awareness to local residents about kidney health," Kidney Health Australia CEO, Chris Forbes said.
The bus will be parked at Mount Buffalo Caravan Park until Saturday, 24 May.
All locals are invited to come down and see the way the service works and learn more about kidney disease.
