MYRTLEFORD father Anthony Szaraszek (right) roused his children Hunter, Oscar and Willow from their beds to attend the Anzac Day dawn service in Myrtleford on Sunday.

They were among dozens of young people who listened and watched respectfully, many with glowing candles in hand.

Mr Szaraszek wanted his kids to understand the significance of Anzac Day.

“My father served in Vietnam and wrote moving letters home to his mother and to his then girlfriend, my mother while overseas,” he said.

“Last week Oscar took them to school to share with his classmates and his teacher said the kids were fascinated.”

The family was among an estimated 250 people, including many youngsters, who braved the cold to attend the service.
