MYRTLEFORD kart lovers got to enjoy the return of Outlaw Karts last Saturday, after almost 12 months since the last time the karts raced at Myrtleford Speedway.
The high back, winged karts are similar to normal karts which have seen drivers in Formula 1 and Supercars like Oscar Piastri, Daniel Riccardo and Shane van Gisbergen start their motorsport journeys.
The major difference between the karts is the engine and body with the outlaws possessing a 450cc dirt bike engine which can see speeds of over 120km per hour and the added safety of a roll cage and a five–point harness.
Myrtleford Speedway Club president Glen Walch said it was awesome to see the karts back out on the Myrtleford Speedway after a year of no racing.
"The racing was fantastic to see and everyone had a good time out with a big turnout for the event," he said.
"There were 12 outlaw karts that attended and over 30 go karts."
The recent resurfacing of the speedway saw quicker times for drivers with some doing times five seconds quicker than previous lap records.
"All the drivers loved the new surface....being able to see them do their quickest time ever was epic," he said.
The success of the Victorian Outlaw Karts has meant Mr Walch is in talks with the team at Melbourne Speedway Kart Club to bring the event back to Myrtleford later in the season and possibilities for up to three meetings at the speedway in 2023.
