MYRTLEFORD’S A1 lawn bowls side hosted YMGCR on Saturday, and their two champion bowlers show their class on very fast rinks.

Australian champion Mary Tragardh was outstanding as skipper in her team supported by Greg Robbins, Michelle Van Praagh and Karen Nicholls, securing two points for the club with a resounding 30 shots to 15 win.

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Ian Brimblecombe, playing for Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort put on a master class as they inflicted the first defeat of the season on Peta Mattys, Lance Symons, Cheryl Lewis and Liz Saunders, 26 shots to 19.

Unfortunately, Mick Dwyer’s rink went down 14/18, but the real damage was the loss of the Geoff Kidd’s rink 13/29, with the overall score being YMGCR 88 shots and 16 points to the home side 76 shots and two points.

Myrtleford has dropped to second on the ladder as a consequence of the loss and now travel to Wodonga, who currently sit third, next Saturday

The B1 side lost by just five shots at Tungamah.

The final score there was 66 shots and 12 points to the home team to Myrtleford’s 61 shots and 2 points, which was secured by Les Brown, Denis Piazza, Geoff Dyt, and Gerry Green with a winning score 26/15.

The B1 side also sits second on the ladder behind a very strong Moyhu.

Next Saturday the side plays at home against Yarrawonga who are in fifth spot.

The B2 side went to Corowa RSL and fell shot by 10 shots but won two of the three rinks to salvage four points for the club.

They are equal top on points but have a lesser percentage than top side Club Mulwala.

Jon Dunell led his rink to a 22/14 win and Phyllis Swindley got her team home narrowly 23/21.

The B2 side is also home next Saturday against Yarrawonga

Next Saturday provides a chance for all three sides to consolidate their positions in the top four or fall back into the pack hoping to play finals next February.
