THE Myrtleford Bowls Club A1 teams were well aware going into the final round a mathematical possibility existed they could participate in the final series, but a win was essential.

While they succeeded with two wins and a draw in the 83/67 final score, elsewhere in the competition results didn’t go their way and they fell an agonising four points short of their goal meaning their season was over.

Best rink, with a courageous effort, was that of Peter Mattys, Cheryl Lewis, Denis Piazza and Rod Mitchell (25/14).

Geoffrey Kidd’s team also performed solidly winning 21/13.

Mary Paton’s team in a tight tussle managed a draw while Lance Symon’s team in a very close game lost 19/22.

Myrtleford’s B1 side was awarded all points when their opposition Rutherglen forfeited the match. They will go into the finals well-appointed on top of the ladder.

The B2 teams, needing to win for a finals birth, travelled to Beechworth and were triumphant thanks to a dominating stance by Helen Murtagh’s team of Peter James, Matthew Dunell and Robin Byrne, winning 29/11 giving Myrtleford an overall score of 62/54.

Lindsay Hamilton’s team battled it out going down 20/22 and Jon Dunnell’s team struggled but kept the aggregate score manageable with 13/21.

The midweek sides continued their good form with both levels being successful in round 13.

The A2 side was dominant, winning 74/50.

Micheal Dwyer with Michelle Van Praagh, Walter Dunstone and Jim Murtagh were the standout team with a 32/13 win.

Gregory Robbin’s team chipped in with 23/17 and Mary Paton’s fought it out going down narrowly 19/20.

Best team for the B1 who won over Benalla 75/58 was Pippa Laspina’s team with Wayne Langdon, Norman Hallett and Annie Dunstone winning 30/18.

Lindsay Hamilton’s team contributed with 24/19 and Colin Smith’s team were content to come away with a draw 21/21.

Even with one more round to go it’s clear both levels will be given a berth in the finals which means that Myrtleford will be well represented in the final series with four sides participating.
