MYRTLEFORD’S A2 lawn bowls side blitzed the top side Club Mulwala at Myrtleford last Tuesday with a score of 68 shots and all 14 points to Club Mulwala 39 shots and zero points.

The three respective rinks had handsome wins with Greg Robbins team winning 16/11, Mary Paton 23/13 and Lance Symons 29/15.

The B1 side also had a huge win over Milawa at Myrtleford 87 shots and all 14 points to Milawa 30 shots and no points.

The winning teams for Myrtleford were skippered by Les Brown 32/3, Pippa LaSpina 23/16 and Colin Smith 32/11.

Last Saturday saw a clean sweep for the Myrtleford teams with the A1 side travelling to Wodonga and having a rare win over the hugely successful home team.

It was second against third, and second-placed Myrtleford secured the win 78 shots and 14 points to Wodonga 64 shots and four points.

Mary Paton’s rink again won 20/15, and Peta Mattys’ team had a huge win 22/9 thanks mainly to Liz Saunders and Cheryl Lewis providing a great start to each end played.

The opposition included Australian ladies champion Kylie Whitehead, and former state player and selector Ashley Bates.

Unfortunately, Mick Dwyer’s rink went down on the last end 20/22 as did Geoff Kidd’s rink 16/18.

This Saturday, the A1 side hosts top side Corowa RSL which will give a clear indication of which of the two sides will have improved most from last season when they played off in a semi-final.

The B1 side is now second after thumping Yarrawonga at Myrtleford 80 shots and all 14 points to just 39 shots and no points.

All three skippers enjoyed big wins with Les Brown’s rink scoring 38/6, Jeff Stagg 21/16 and Graham Burrington 21/17.

The B2 side is now sitting on top after also beating Yarrawonga at home 72 shots and 12 points to 44 shots and just two points.

Phyllis Swindley’s rink had a big win 31/12, Lindsay Hamilton 28/11 and Jon Dunell’s rink fell short going down 13/21.

This has been the best start to a pennant season for many years at Myrtleford and the place is buzzing with excitement about what the rest of the season may hold in sore.
