DUE to the massive downpours across the region, all A Division and B Division round eight bowls games were washed out on Saturday.

It now leaves just six rounds of home and away matches with two played before Christmas and the remaining four games played in January and February before the top four in each division contest the finals.

Tuesday, November 26 saw the midweek pennant also suffer from the inclement weather.

Many clubs will be hoping there are no more interruptions as they strive to reach the finals which commence in mid-February.

In other news, the Myrtleford Bowls Club continues to vigorously pursue funding through the Alpine Shire Council and the State and Federal Governments to completely cover one green and change the playing surface to synthetic grass.

The club is pursuing this so that play will not be impacted by the weather in future and all participants will be protected from the UV rays thus reducing the chances of skin cancers, while assisting the environment as well.

The club’s wish is also to provide ramp access to their greens and has just completed the installation of a unisex disabled toilet as it works towards providing a world-class sporting facility in Myrtleford.

“Diversifying our user base and increasing participation for all to keep people physically and mentally active is our obligation to this great community,” Myrtleford Bowls Club president Lance Symons said.

“Now that the Council elections have taken place and the new Mayor Sarah Nicholas has been appointed, we hope to see more action with this project.”
