The Lions Club of Bright have named Stephen Jenvey as this year's recipient of the Max McGillivray Award.
This perpetual award recognises an individual or group's outstanding service to the Alpine community over an extended period of time.
The award is granted in honour of the late Max McGillivray, who, himself was a member of the Bright Lions and involved tirelessly in the community and its innumerable projects.
"This year's awardee, Steve, was born in Bright and his family is well known here," Bright Lions Club secretary, Chris Jenvey said.
"Steve is well involved in the Bright Lions Club, the Bright Lawn Bowls and the Uniting church.
"He is always ready to lend a hand.
"Steve was very humbled by the honour and didn’t expect it at all: gosh, it was hard keeping that secret from him.
"His many years of service to the community saw him nominated for this award and the committee decided he was the most favourable candidate this year."
Malcolm Stapleton, one of the oldest serving Lions and current committee member, made a speech introducing the award and the recipient, then proceeded to tell a bit about Steve’s history and how he became the winner at the Lion's meeting on 15 July.
The award entails a small plaque for the winner, with a larger perpetual plaque held at the Bright Library as well as $1000 to be donated towards a cause of their choice within Bright: this year, the funds will be awarded to the Bright Theatre Company.
Stephen made a short speech to say thank you, stating he felt very honoured and humbled he had been chosen for the award.
