A CHANGE of home venue was unable to secure the result for Dederang-Mount Beauty’s senior football side as they went down to a strong Tallangatta outfit by 146 points.

It was a day of celebration for the Bombers, who introduced Toby Derrick, Jack Coulston and Cameron Walch into the fold for their first senior game.

Tallangatta, who are a genuine chance to hold a top-three finals spot by year’s end, gave DMB a footballing lesson on their way to a 25.21 (171) to 4.1 (25) win.

Max Jensen kicked a couple for the Bombers, while regular contributors Emerson Lemkau and captain Jacob Ozolins each added a goal to keep the scoreboard ticking over when the opportunity came their way.

In senior netball, DMB couldn’t match it with Tallangatta for the full four quarters in a 29-45 defeat.

While the Bombers remained within three goals of the lead and striking distance at half-time, the Hoppers were relentless with ball movement and defensive pressure to break the game open in the second half.

A grade netball coach Alex Dyde spoke openly about the game and took the opportunity to reflect on the season so far.

“The first half was great netball, but unfortunately in the second half we reverted to some old habits, but I also have to give credit to Tallangatta who are a great side and apply pressure down the court well,” Dyde said.

“In saying that, our whole court pressure was very effective and we did get a lot of intercepts throughout, just unfortunately couldn’t convert them.

“No rest for the wicked with Chiltern on the other side of the bye, so we will still be training hard this coming week in preparation for that match.

“I think the season has been quite predictable – the top five were somewhat solidified within those first few rounds and teams we would expect to see.

“It’s been great to see the team continue to improve, we are certainly better now than we were round one which gives us further optimism around our development between now and finals.

“I think learning to rely on the new game plays we’ve created this season, that we know work, when faced with close games and tough pressure will help strengthen our side.

The Tallangatta football and netball leagues will pause this weekend for a leaguewide bye, and will resume on Saturday, June 14.
