Mt Beauty Writers Festival hailed “best ever”

Hundreds of people enjoyed the "best ever" Mount Beauty Writers Festival on Saturday.

Festival founder Fay Mason said authors and the public alike had a fantastic time at the one-day event at Mountain Monk Brewers.

"It was our fourth event and our best yet, with several hundred people engaging with our line-up of local and celebrity scribes as they discussed their latest literary works," she said.

Former Aussie Wallaby star, turned one of Australia’s most successful media presenters and columnist, Peter FitzSimons, lead the author talks on 'The Legend of Albert Jacka’, with Chris Hammer, Courtney Collins, Ashley Kalagian-Blunt, Joe Matera, Peter Norris and Ruth Pollock all discussing their latest books.

Another feature of the festival was the Youth Short Story Competition sponsored by AGL.

Ms Mason said judges commended all 49 nine entries for their high standard and it was encouraging to see so many young students participate.

Prize winners were: Years 3-5, winner Matilda Bloomer, runner-up Luca Fraser; Years 6 to 8, winner Nina Fallon, runner-up Sierra Davies; Years 9 to 12, winner Marley May Tryhorn, runner-up Bridget Hams.
