Grinduro cycle race set for Falls Creek

AFTER two years of postponement, Falls Creek will be hosting the inaugural Australian Grinduro gravel festival, this December 2–4, featuring three days of riding, live music, bike exhibitions and ambassador talks.

The major cycling race – an 80km loop of gravel, jeep trail and forest roads – will go ahead on December 3 through the Bogong High Plains, while there will be a prologue 35km ride on Friday, and a post–race ride on Sunday.

"After what seems like an age in planning we finally are getting to realise our dream of bringing the Grinduro party to the Southern Hemisphere," Grinduro Global's Paul Errington said.

"We couldn't be more excited to ride with the gravel fans in Australia at what we think will be an amazing weekend."

Sarah Watt, director of marketing and communications at Falls Creek Resort Management, said they are extremely excited to launch Grinduro Australia at Falls Creek.

"The inaugural Australian event has been gaining great interest and we can't wait to see everyone here enjoying the alpine environment and beauty of the Bogong High Plains in December," she said.

Participants will wind their way for 80km throughout the Bogong High Plains, while the main stage will take competitors up to the highest drivable point in Victoria – Mt McKay – and back through the mountains, before finishing in Falls Creek.
