WEDNESDAY'S annual general meeting of the Wangaratta and District Cricket Association at the Wangaratta Turf Club brought clubs from around the area together to lay the groundwork for the 2022/23 season.
While president Greg Hoysted made it clear to all in attendance he would not be seeking to reprise his role for the upcoming season, he stayed on to chair the meeting as no new nominations for president were tabled.
A motion was passed requiring clubs with more than one senior side to have a presence on the WDCA executive in order to more evenly disperse the workload and make the association run smoother.
The executive will meet at some time over the coming weeks to continue the search for a president, with Hoysted staying on as a member of the executive to represent Benalla Bushrangers.
Junior wicketkeepers in the under 16 and senior grades will no longer be required to wear a helmet when keeping back from the stumps, and fielding restrictions currently in place in A grade will also apply in A reserve, in order to further prepare cricketers for the highest level of play.
A lively debate took place after Ovens Valley United CC proposed a new rule change, which would make it mandatory for clubs with an A grade side to also field one in A reserve.
While some saw the merit behind the proposal in order to further develop younger cricketers, the motion was ultimately defeated.
The season will commence on October 15.
