Stephanie Bellman and daughter Zoe – Mount Beauty

How long have you lived here?

We moved to town in 2020, but have always visited the area throughout the past 10 years. My husband has strong family ties in the community and since my family is located overseas, moving to town seemed to be the right choice for us.

What do you like about the area?

I absolutely adore the scenery in and around Mount Beauty. There is so much to do and see here. In addition, I also like all the little cafes and shops the township has to offer and I was rather surprised by the variety of goods and services available in Mt Beauty, Tawonga and surrounds.

Would you like to see changes or additions?

As for changes, I would like to see the community thrive as a whole. The dynamic of the town has changed in recent years and I quite frankly enjoy this change. The town has become more vibrant with the influx of young families and couples from other regions and I, too, see myself as a newcomer to town. As such, I would like to see more vibrant events taking in place in our beautiful township and I like the idea of a community coming together to create a destination which visitors will truly enjoy not just for its stunning scenery. We have amazing businesses, entrepreneurs and volunteers in this community and I am sure that, together, we can make this happen. As such, I have already seen some fantastic ideas come to life in recent months and I am eager to see more.

What do you do and what are your hobbies?

I am one of the owners of West Peak Hotel and Mountain Monk Brewers in Mount Beauty. I pretty much left my career as a lawyer in Sydney behind to relocate to the shire and take up my passion in hospitality and brewing. We are in the final stages of setting up our brewery business in town which has been a journey in the making for several years.

As for hobbies, I enjoy hiking, skiing and snowboarding. Having grown up in Germany, I love the cold and crisp weather but I also like the idea of being able to go for a nice swim in the river. I have recently taken up some mountain biking again as well and this seems like a lot of fun too.

Where would you take visitors to showcase the area?

In Mount Beauty, I would take visitors to all the beautiful swimming locations and onto some amazing bushwalks, including the Gorge walk. In addition, I would like to show them around in town, get a coffee at one of the nice little coffee shops before visiting the township as well. A lot of our shops in town sell produce from the region and some even produce their own soaps and candles which I believe is something quite unique.

Then, of course, I would take them for a beer and a meal at either our own establishment or any of the others in town. If I was to travel out of town, I would likely spend some time in Falls Creek for either skiing or hiking and then, perhaps, travel to Myrtleford or Beechworth for some additional sightseeing.
