THE 20th edition of North East Living magazine has just been released, offering an interesting mix of stories celebrating the people, places and communities who make this region such a great place to live.
Whorouly's Paula Harrington is among those featured, telling her story about how she shares her love of the rural lifestyle with visitors by offering holiday accommodation.
Together with her husband Greg, they have added yet another chapter to the Harrington's generational use of the rich farmland, going from tobacco to cattle and now an AirB&B.
Staying in the Ovens Valley, Mt Buffalo Chalet's new lease of life is also a talking point, with the man overseeing the reopening of the iconic chalet back to public speaking about the plans and progrress.
Over the range and in the King Valley, the team at Darling Estate Wines in Whitfield are excited about this year's vintage, which got off to an early start and was wrapped up by the end of March.
Sophie and Grace Darling say the quality of the fruit is stunning with great flavour development across all their varieties.
The sisters are moving the business forward, following in the footsteps of their father John and grandfather Guy Darling, who planted the King Valley's first vines in 1970.
While Grace looks after the vineyard, Sophie is now chief winemaker, and the family were thrilled to open their new cellar door in Whitfield in December last year.
Also featured in this edition is Beechworth’s Jodie Goldsworthy, who was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the Australia Day Honours list this year for significant service to primary industry; we hear about an amazing volunteer effort which is driving the Mansfield Heritage Museum project; we also talk to members of the North East Regional Pre School Association, and learn about their work over the last 20 years to create a supportive environment for local students and teachers; and we meet Wangaratta brother and sister team Paul and Monique Szeligiewicz who are the creative force behind destination dining venue, Ava in Milawa.
Those with an interest in sustainable living will enjoy taking a tour of the Mckeeman family's low-impact home in Wooragee, which they were able to build to a budget without compromising on comfort or quality (and which features on our cover) and see how renowned artist Ralph Bristow adapted his talents to landscape design, creating a garden for all seasons in Barwite which is proving to be an inspiration to others.
We also find out how girls who are passionate about AFLW in the region are being supported to continue to play the game they love.
The 20th edition of North East Living is available now for $7.95 from local outlets including Myrtleford NewsXpress in Clyde Street, Bright Newsagency in Ireland Street and Tawonga South Newsagency on the Kiewa Valley Highway.
