Pupils converge at Bright Pavilion to enjoy Indigenous culture

A Young Mob Collective Day was held at the Bright Pavilion on last Wednesday, 30 July, with approximately 50 primary and secondary school students in attendance from Myrtleford, Mount Beauty, Bright, Tawonga, Porepunkah, Tallangatta and Rutherglen.

The multi-school gathering was created with the aim of bringing local First Nations youth and young people together to engage in cultural activities, including a smoking ceremony to kick off proceedings, an art workshop, traditional games, creation stories discussions and a wellness workshop.

Two Myrtleford P-12 College VCE students, Sahara Giles and Lauree Duncan, worked with the Alpine Shire Council and other community supports to organise the Young Mob Collective Day.

The activities were led by local Elders Uncle Mick Harding, Aunty Tammy Cambell and Aunty Lee Couch alongside First Nation's community members Luke Brock and Dale French.
