A free public outdoor gym is expected to be completed in Bright within the next 12 months, if not earlier.
Alpine Shire Council has committed $80,000 in its 2025/26 capital works program to put towards landscaping, site preparation and project management of an accessible outdoor gym in Bright.
The Bright Outdoor Fitness Equipment project is a joint venture between council and Bright Rotary Club, with the club to contribute remaining funds to the $100,000 project.
Before Myrtleford and Porepunkah received their outdoor gyms in 2024, the Bright Rotary Club came up with an idea to install an outdoor public gym in town.
"After travelling and spending time on the east coast, I noticed many of those towns have got walking tracks with outdoor gyms," Bright Rotary Club's community committee chair, Leanne Poyner said.
"I thought 'why doesn't Bright have one?', it's a really fitness-centric town and not everyone can afford to go to the gym.
"At the time, our club was looking for our new major project, so I put it to our board and they agreed it would be a great community project to get involved with.
"We're really looking forward to the project being completed, within the next 12 months, so we're working with council towards that goal."
The plan for the proposed outdoor gym spaces is designed to be very different to existing outdoor exercise spaces, with adjustable weights and accessibility features for all users, including nearby accessible parking.
The final location of the gym has not been decided.
