The Bright Croquet Club has invited both locals and visitors alike to their 'Come and Try Day' on Thursday, 30 October, to enjoy a great day on the green and perhaps find their next favourite, low-impact sport to scratch their social itch.
Club president, Joan Thompson, said the event is held during each October as part of the Victorian Seniors' Festival, to find new members, but also as the croquet club's contribution to what is happening in town.
"It's quite a nice day out," Ms Thompson said.
"We're very happy to have a game of croquet with new players and make it accessible for them.
"I'd encourage anyone to join in: as long as they enjoy their day and get themselves moving.
"Newcomers don't have to arrive at 9am on the do, any time in morning before 2pm is fine.
"Our 'Come and Try Day' is free for everyone...we provide the mallets and other equipment and morning tea.
"It's a great social day out for people.
"You can have a cup of tea or coffee and something to eat and relax for the morning."
While the focus of the day is on seniors, everyone is welcome to join in.
Please wear flat-soled shoes to protect the lawn and drop in anytime between 9am to 2pm at the Bright Croquet Club, 10 Wood Street - best accessed via Burke Street.
Other activities on the agenda for the last week of the Victorian Seniors' Festival in the Alpine Shire include:
- A cooking and recipe-sharing workshop, held at the Mount Beauty Neighbourhood Centre on Thursday from 10am.
- Catch Darryl Peebles' Comedy Show in either Myrtleford on Thursday or Mount Beauty on Saturday evening, to break out your best belly-laugh.
- Bright Library will host author Gabriel Bergmoser to speak about his gripping new novel 'High Rise', as well as an information session surrounding aged care reform and the future of 'My Aged Care'.
- Myrtleford University of the Third Age (U3A) will lead a tour of the Mosaic Trail in town, starting in Apex Park, followed by a barbeque in Rotary Park.
- And a whole host of activities, showcases, live talent and more will be on display at this year's Myrtleford Show.
