AFTER more than a quarter of a century in Bright and 20 years in Myrtleford the Wilson family will shut down their taxi service from Tuesday night.
They say the rise of government regulation, increase in volunteer-driven transports and courtesy transports has forced their hand.
Lincoln Wilson said they had continued to operate at a financial and personal loss for several years.
“So it is with heavy hearts and the quiet death of our collective persistence and patience, that we announce the closure of both Bright and Myrtleford Taxis,” he said.
“It is with sincere regret and overwhelming sense of personal failure and loss that we cannot continue to swim upstream against the tide.
“On December 20 at 5pm we will close the door and turn off the phone.
“We will gather for quiet reflection upon an era that has been and gone.
“We will think about the people in our community that started out as customers and ended up as wedding guests, and at the Christmas table and as friends.”
