Two chef hats side by side

TWO HATS BETTER THAN ONE: Anthony Simone says the recognition for his restaurant and next door neighbour Tani Eat and Drink was the result of a lot of hard work. PHOTO: Justin Jenvey

TWO Bright restaurants have again been recognised among the best in Victoria.

Tani Eat and Drink and Simone’s – who ironically sit next door to each other in Gavan Street – both received one hat in The Age Good Food Guide for 2017.

The pair were among 28 regional restaurants to receive at least one chef’s hat in the annual guide that rates venues on their food, service and atmosphere.

For Tani owners Hamish Nugent and Rachel Reed it was their third consecutive hat since winning New Regional Restaurant of the Year in 2014.

With a busy schedule that also includes running Yama Kitchen & Bar at Mt Hotham during winter, Hamish said the pressure to hold onto one hat year-on-year was a big enough challenge.

“We’re really happy with another hat,” he said.

“Two hats would be awesome but with that expectations also go up and we wouldn’t want it to change people’s perceptions in a bad way, we’re happy continuing what we’ve always done.”
