Ski resorts left exposed

Police warning after high country road accidents

URGENT discussions are under way in an 11th hour attempt to reinstate an around the clock police presence at Falls Creek and Mt Hotham this winter.

A week out from the ski season opening and both resorts are demanding answers from the Victorian Police Minister over a decision they say is short sighted and puts lives at risk.

They also claim there is a lack of clarity about what will be provided and are angry that they were kept in the dark about the plan.

Neither resort was aware of plans to cut an on-mountain after hours presence before the story broke during question time in the Victorian Parliament last week.

A letter to the minister sent last week called on the re-instatement of a 24 hour police presence for the upcoming season.

The escalating crisis has also dragged in mountain medical services with ambulance officers and medicos saying they need police back-up for after hour call-outs.
