Beer’s bright sparks

BRIGHT Brewery hopes to lead the way in creating a more environmental friendly craft brewing industry.

The Great Alpine Road business officially launched their solar revolution last Sunday after covering their 600 square metre roof with 192 solar panels in December.

Their passion for a more eco-friendly craft brewing industry has also led to the Craft Beer Industry Association prompting a session on environmental sustainability at the national conference in July.

Bright Brewery owner Scott Brandon said the solar panels will save the business $18,000 per year and pay themselves off in five years and were just the first step in moving toward more sustainable operations.

“For us, craft brewing means really caring about how you make beer, why you’re making beer and the impact that the process and product has on your customers and surrounds,” he said.

“That includes caring about your impact on the environment and the sustainable nature of your business.
