A sad farewell as a community mourns

1000 pay tribute to a woman who made a difference

Hundreds of mourners follow Karen Chetcuti’s funeral cortege as it leaves the Whorouly Recreational Reserve yesterday.

MORE than 1000 mourners yesterday joined family and friends at a moving memorial service in Whorouly to remember Karen Chetcuti.

The Wangaratta council worker and mother of two was remembered as a dedicated mother and tireless worker for the community during an emotional funeral at the Whorouly Recreation Reserve.

Speaker after speaker told of Karen’s willingness to go out of her way to help others and of her infectious smile.

The service began with the song ‘One’ by Ed Sheeran, followed by tributes from Odette Cardilini, Jess Clark, Jack Harrington, Andrew Chuck, Paula Thomas Hives and Lance White.

A photo tribute was displayed backed by other Sheeran songs, Lay It All On Me and All Of The Stars.

Prayers were read by Vivian Gurlia, Di Cuneen and Mariah Sutton with the blessing performed by Father Mike Pullar.
