Myrtleford basketballers off to a strong start in representative season

WINNERS ARE GRINNERS: Myrtleford’s under 16 girls and under 14 boys were at the top of their game at the first representative tournament for 2015/16.

MYRTLEFORD has begun the representative basketball season strongly claiming two titles at Echuca over the weekend.

Both the under 16 girls and under 14 boys sides capped off a great tournament with grand final wins, the girls doing so in the final seconds of their match.

The girls faced Phoenix United in the division B final and after trailing all game won the match with just seven seconds remaining when Sophie McKerral put her side ahead, 28-27, with a clutch basket.

Earlier in the weekend the girls went undefeated winning their first two pool games against Kyneton and Echuca before drawing with Castlemaine.

The under 14s boys side claimed the division B title with some impressive performances during the tournament.

After topping their pool with comfortable wins over Deniliquin, Shepparton and Echuca Priestly and Worsnop they met the latter in the decider and went on to win 36-17.
