OVENS Valley United Cricket Club has appointed a former player of all three merged clubs as coach for its inaugural season.

OVENS Valley United Cricket Club has appointed a former player of all three merged clubs as coach for its inaugural season.

Former Gapsted, Whorouly/Gapsted and Myrtleford cricketer Tony Cuskelly will guide the Tigers in their first season in the Wangaratta and District Cricket Association.

Cuskelly, who has played cricket on and off for Myrtleford over the last 10 years, offered his services to the club with his involvement in all three former clubs being a major reason behind his appointment.

“When I first moved to the area I captained Gapsted, then went to Whorouly before joining Myrtleford in their first year in the Wangaratta competition,” Cuskelly said.

“I have a fair grounding on the history of all three clubs and now they are all one I’m really looking forward to helping build a successful club.”
Cuskelly said his major focus would be on getting players to training and having a number of coaches assisting around the club.

“I want cricketers to be training regularly and I want young cricketers to have access to coaching so I am going to try and get a team of coaches,” he said.
