SKIING looks set to return to the slopes of Mt Buffalo, possibly as soon as 2017.
Parks Victoria have appeared to have reversed a previous stance ruling out the reopening of the Cresta Valley lifts but after discussions with a small team of skiing enthusiasts led by Ben Mock of Canberra they appear to have relented.
“From the first discussions with them when they said ‘not now’ to this is great news basically,” Mr Mock said.
“We didn’t take no for an answer, I wrote to Lisa Neville and a few other ministers, things went to Parks and they have now told us they will be looking at getting it open again.
“It’s not a ‘definitely will happen’ but it’s a ‘most likely’ which is what we wanted.”
Mr Mock said Parks raised a couple of concerns in regard to the operation and running of facilities but they were assured they could all be managed.
“They mentioned the CSIRO report which came out in 2003 and 2007 about declining snowlines but the temperatures haven’t changed since then and they were also concerned about electricity,” Mr Mock said.
