ST MARY’S Primary School students and teachers have finally moved into their new learning space after the building was completed just prior to the mid-year break.
Construction on the rebuild of the building damaged by fire in October 2013 got under way at the start of the school year and although it took a little longer than expected to finish, St Mary’s principal Ashley Marsh said it was well worth the wait.
“It’s obviously all furnished now and the students are very happy to have moved into the space as are our teachers who are just as excited,” he said.
“It’s been a long process but the students and staff were very patient while all the work took place and we are extremely happy with the end result, it’s going to be a fantastic space for our students to learn.”
Mr Marsh said the building will initially be home to the prep class and one of the grade one-two classes but will be utilised by all of the junior students during a normal week.
The new building is an open learning space which encourages group learning and joint activities and includes separate areas for moving, reading, building, creating, talking and presenting.
