NBN is coming to town

NATIONAL Broadband is inching closer to the Alpine Shire with NBN making an application last week to council to erect two towers to provide fixed wireless internet coverage to rural areas surrounding Mt Beauty and Tawonga.

The application identified locations on the Mt Beauty Golf Course and at Cuthbert Street, Tawonga on the same site as an SP Ausnet Tower.

Two NBN towers have already been approved in the Alpine Shire, one at Gundowring and the other at Wandiligong.

Alpine Shire Council CEO Dave Barry said he welcomed anything that would substantially improve broadband coverage across the shire as long as it did not have a detrimental impact.

Heather Green, director sustainable development at Alpine Shire said the application will be advertised this week and there will be the usual two week period for any public submissions to be made either in favour of the application or against it.

Michael Moore, manager state corporate affairs Victoria for NBN said an in-depth site selection process was undertaken in the area prior to confirming the two sites as the preferred location.
