Memories flow at reunion

Former Bright Higher Elementary School students enjoyed their annual catch-up last Sunday at the Porepunkah Hotel.Students from the 1930s to 1960s enjoyed a good chat and went through some old school memorabilia.

The Bright Higher Elementary School ‘Back to School’ event is now in its 18th year, and organisers couldn’t be happier.

Organiser Nellie Cosgrove said the idea started out as a backyard barbecue after her return to the North East 25 years ago, and was for students from the early days of the school.

“It started in 1990 and we held them every five years, but then we decided to hold them two years apart and now were down to one year apart,” she said.

“It’s a great way for all of us to catch up and see how we’re all doing.”

The event is held the first Sunday after Mother’s Day, and organiser Stuart Hargreaves said people travel from all over to attend.

“We’ve got people from Melbourne, Wangaratta and Cobram, and we normally have a few more, but as the years pass, less attend either due to bad health or they’ve passed away,” he said.
